In Insein, Yangon, Myanmar, there was a big corruption scandal involving the Myanmar State Pharmaceutical Factory (BPI). Bribery and using inferior raw materials are some of the serious allegations against Dr. Aung Zaw, who runs this company. Dr. Aung Zaw was accused of accepting substandard materials that did not meet the tender specifications for the company. As a result, the country faced significant financial losses. What happened later? As soon as Myat threw an iron table at Aung Zaw Win, who pulled out a knife to defend himself, he stabbed the victim on several occasions. The pathological reports provided 12 cuts, of which four were fatal wounds to the body’s core organs.
Section 302 of the Penal Code stipulates that a murder made out of rage cannot be declared premeditated. Therefore, Aung Zaw Win (the convict) was sentenced to 30 years. Nevertheless, he showed remorse and had a personal relationship with the victim. These aspects swayed the court’s decision as they demonstrated spontaneity in murder.
